It's in the Details

I think it is the details that make a project go from special to extraordiary. Here are some details that I loved creating this year - it looks so different to just see the little bits. Love that. Just a few more 2010 faves and a personal note from me.

This year has been very transitional for me. It's been more than I ever expected in many ways. A lot of growth and change, both artistically and personally. I'm embracing me. All of the details of me. The biggest lesson I have learned this year is that you, we, all of us are worth it....worth the time, the effort, the love.

I wish I could personally thank every one of you who have read, commented or just peeked at my blog this year. I'm glad we've had the chance to meet online and that you've looked into my heart - because that is what my art is. Thank you for your kindness. xo

Wishing you a very wonderful New Year full of love and much creativity. See you in 2011. :)

2010 Faves - Layouts

This was a difficult list to put together. So many more I wanted to include. That is probably a good thing. :)

And a few observations....lots of splatter....lots of color....lots of love in these pages. This makes me happy.

Any of your faves? What an amazing year....thank you for experiencing it with me. xo

Starlings

I love this poem, especially the last stanzas. It instantly gave me a strong visual inspiration for the last painting assignment fror Wyanne's class - Paint Free.

Starlings in Winter
by Mary Oliver

Chunky and noisy,
but with stars in their black feathers,
they spring from the telephone wire
and instantly
they are acrobats
in the freezing wind.
And now, in the theater of air,
they swing over buildings,
dipping and rising;
they float like one stippled star
that opens,
becomes for a moment fragmented,
then closes again;
and you watch
and you try
but you simply can’t imagine
how they do it
with no articulated instruction, no pause,
only the silent confirmation
that they are this notable thing,
this wheel of many parts, that can rise and spin
over and over again,
full of gorgeous life.

Ah, world, what lessons you prepare for us,
even in the leafless winter,
even in the ashy city.

I am thinking now

of grief, and of getting past it;

I feel my boots

trying to leave the ground,

I feel my heart

pumping hard. I want

to think again of dangerous and noble things.

I want to be light and frolicsome.

I want to be improbable beautiful and afraid of nothing,

as though I had wings.

Let your dreams take flight.....that's one of my goals for the upcoming year. To let go of fear of failure and believe in my dreams. Developing as an artist is something that fills me with fear and anticipation.....what will I be? Dream on, my friends and let your dreams empower you.

Merry Christmas

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!! I'm taking a little break to spend time with my family and relax, so I'll see you after the holidays. :)

Just a quick peek at what we've been doing.......making some fabric rosettes....Emma's color choices for her own headband....loving that hot pink feather she added into the mix. :)

My favorite ornament - I helped out in Emma's classroom for Craft Day - crazy busy! She made this ornament, which I love. That hand couldn't be more precious in my eyes.

I've been working on setting goals and prioritizing for the new year.....that feels really good. I need a focus, so I can stay where I want to be. I'll be putting together a selection of faves from 2010.....wow, what a year!

Wishing you a wonderful time with family and friends as we celebrate this special time. xo

All I Want for Christmas....

We've got that take on a traditional Christmas wish this year at our house....lol. Emma's been losing teeth, right and left and has an adorable gap tooth grin right now.

It fit right in with Crate Paper's Happy Holiday's Blog Event! Be sure to check it out for fabulous inspiration and prizes!!

I just love this smile!

I don't have a lot of wintery photos so I love how versatile the Snow Days collection is and the wonderful colors!

I painted a piece of canvas with acrylic paint and gesso for a textural layer.

What's on your Christmas wish list this year? I don't have much on my list....I'm already so blessed. A few new paint brushes and some new art classes are on the top of mine. I'm so enjoying the magical time with Em. Hope you are enjoying your preparations, too! xo

Sew Somerset

I always love Sew Somerset and this issue is no exception! It's always on my must buy magazine list, but it's always so wonderful to get a free issue when you are published in it!

I had a couple of things in the gallery in this issue - I've put them on my blog before - I'll link the photos to the original posts - if you want to see more details of the finished projects.

I am still so in love with this book - I actually got it back this week and spend some time looking through my details - it made it into the gallery - a couple of pages. :) Here is my original post with all of the photos: Form and Design

And the other piece - another dress form, this time an art quilt - there is a video in the original post showing how I created it.

 Masked Fabric Art Quilt

I feel very fortunate for the publishing opportunities I've received from Stampington.....I've got some other new things I'm working on for them by assignment, my first pub in Somerset Studio coming out soon! When I first started creating mixed media 5 years ago, I would buy Somerset Studio and dream of one day being in their magazines.....and now to be a guest artist.....wow, it's amazing!!  Thanks for letting me share my happiness today!

Hope you had a great weekend.....we had a lot of fun - we took Em out on a grown-up night.....dinner at my favorite sushi restaurant and then to see a one man production of It's A Wonderful Life. A perfect holiday night out with my two favorite people. Nice. :)

Also....don't forget, Webster's is having it's first ever OPEN DESIGN TEAM CALL!!!! The past 2 years at Webster's has been a true delight for me. I'm not reapplying to reduce my comittments and have more time in the studio- but you'll still see my work from time to time on the Alumni Team. :)
