Guesting for Creative Scrappers

I was invited to guest for Creative Scrappers, a wonderful sketch challenge site, this week! They share inspiring sketches to work with....I loved the linear design on this week's sketch. Thank you, Creative Scrappers for the guest opportunity!

And my take on the sketch using some of my Prima stash:

I used gesso on the background and black corduroy fabric layered with some border punched paper strips on this.

Here is the sketch, don't you want to play along, too?!?

Their sponsor this month is Couture Cardstock, I saw their booth at CHA and am in love with the 12x12 watercolor papers they have......a must with my love of paint and misting!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Webster's Booth

Of course, you know I had to give Webster's a post all of it's own.....these papers were truly my favorite at CHA and while I might be a *little* biased.....I would feel this way even if I wasn't on the DT there.....they are so my style. Check out the videos I shot in the booth.....isn't Brandin the cutest ever?!? She is just as sweet and bubbly when not on camera and we got to spend some time together and Shauna, her sister, too. So much fun!!

The bloomers...the rosette trim (seen behind Brandin in the video) is by far my favorite new embellishment....can't wait to use it on all kinds of projects!

And my creations with the new lines, as seen in the booth.....so, so in love with Webster's!!! This one from Garden Gala, banners are hot, hot, hot this year and these little Japanese lanterns.....too cute!!

My Em looks much too old in this photo. And my handmade flower....accented with some of the new Shimmerz Vibez. More to come about that. ;)

And Lullabye Lane, so soft and dreamy....and not just for babies! I just finished a completely non-baby layout using this line, I'll share it later. So an older pic of Em that I have to thank Steph for the editing idea....it was too bright with the colors in the basket and she suggested a sepia overlay and then erase only Em and the dress for a spot of color....worked perfectly!!

This little fairy on the turtle is my favorite motif in this line......adorable!!

Me and Brandin in the booth. So, now you have it....a overview of Webster's at CHA.....what do you think?

My parents are coming in for a visit this afternoon, so I have to run clean up a bit and go to the grocery store...oh, joy. Hope you have a great weekend!

CHA

CHA was a fun filled event, full of vintage and mixed media inspiration! Vintage and jewelry took center stage, with canvas and burlap a close second, lots of metal embellishments everywhere. The company didn't hurt any either. :)

I am realizing what a terrible photographer I am in the documenting area.....I don't have half of the pictures that I thought I did....however, Julie, my roommate shines in this area and many others.....I would recommend you check out her fabulous CHA postings to get the full overview......Balzer Designs.

Ok, a few of my faves.....Melody Ross for GCD Studios....loving the mixed media angle of self embossed chipboard using metal stamps.....her canvases were gorgeous.....I was fortunate to get to meet Melody at a lunch with some of the ladies from Somerset publications....she is super sweet and generous!

Canvas, canvas and more canvas.....Prima, Pink Paislee, Maya Road, and Canvas Home Basics (love their stuff) all featured canvas and I loved every minute of it.....here is one of Donna's aprons......I've been using canvas and burlap forever and love to see it!

Felt and alterable jewelry blanks were hot...these bangles were really cute....sorry I can't remember the booth, Hambly's make and take also was a wooden bangle with rub-ons.....so wonderful!

*Note my wrist with the Hambly make and take....and some of the new Hambly luscious peacock feathers!! Photo by Julie Fei-Fen Balzer.

Making Memories got into the vintage jewelry, too.....with Jill Schwartz designing.....I want it ALL!!!

And my FAVE of the show.......VINTAJ.......brass jewelry findings....their examples are beyond gorgeous.....take a peek at these lovelies!

And meeting some of my wonderful online friends for the first time in real life.....if any of you read this post....send me some photos, please. (crafty75@gmail.com) Just a few off the top of my head......Natathie Kalbach, Julie Wolcheck, Kerry Lynn Yeary, Kristi B, Staci Taylor, Stacy Cohen and many re-acquaintances.

I've got more to share from the Webster's booth...including my layouts with 2 of the new lines. See you soon....laundry is calling.

Monoprinting with Pearlz Video

Monoprinting is a serendipitous affair, be prepared to let the paint do what it wants to create some amazing effects! I played with some of the new Shimmerz Pearlz to create a random, blended background.

Here's how I did it........

To create this background I used the new Shimmerz Pearlz - Ballet Slipper, Grey Flannel, Pearl and Morning Mist.

A close up of all of the pearly goodness!

I'm heading out in the morning for Los Angeles and CHA! It's been a busy week and I can't wait to hang out with some other crafty ladies! I'll be doing a LIVE FROM CHA CHAT at inspireMe on Monday night at 7PM PST, that is 10PM EST.....hope to see you there!

Monday Countdown

I'm counting down the days.....CHA is right around the corner and the new lines are popping up everywhere......loving Websters, Sassafras, Prima and Cosmo Crickets stuff so far.....no surprise there.....lol.

There was a little contest on Scrapbook.com a little while ago and guess what? I won, and it was shown on the Cosmo Cricket blog and I received a great box of CC goodies to play with! This is from the Nutmeg collection...love the colors in these papers!

A digital photo grouping from Carina Gardner at 2Peas. I also misted the wood grain with Shimmerz Spritz Truffle and hand doodled with black Sharpie and WhiteOut pen.

I painted the leaf with some Eucalyptus Shimmerz Spritz and more pen work with WhiteOut.

I've been working on some sewing projects, too.....I finished sewing up the purse I started while I was in Missouri, need to get some pictures to share. And quilted an art journal page with some Shimmerz paint....trying to wrap the video for that. What are you working on this week?

Seaside Retreat

If you are looking for a Webster's Pages peek....you are in the right place!

This is my favorite new line, of the four new paper collections - Seaside Retreat......think tropics, travel, sun drenched color....all with the magical Webster's signature look. I can imagine so many ideas for this line: pictures from summer vacations, a cleaner look for some masculine pictures, cruise photos, and projects that just need that extra pop of color.

This page is called "Underwater Oasis"....a vision of underwater beauty and color....coral, little fish and a sunken ship!

We had a design team announcement during the chat on Monday and I am excited to announce two new DT members: my fabulous friend, Steph Devlin and the wonderfully talented Karola Witzcak. You won't want to miss what these ladies do with Webster's Pages!! Welcome!!

A little personal news.......I am going to CHA!! I originally didn't think I would make it to California, but things fell into place at the last minute....I'm so excited!! Let me know if you are planning to be there and we can try to meet IRL!

Painting and Scrapping....

A lot of that going on in my studio lately. A mixed media painting I finished from the online class I am taking with Wyanne. I learned a lot here....especially, what not to do. lol Overall, I like it a lot....but you know how it is with your own work....I see what to change next time. That's a good feeling.....growth. A welcome feeling right now.

And a Sassafras layout that I absolutely adore.....I used a photo action by Coffeeshop on these photos to get the vintage wash....love that! And some Shimmerz shine.......I was thrilled to see it on the Sassafras blog last week!

I masked the chipboard clouds with some Baby's Breath Shimmerz Spritz to accent the top under the banner.

And Hi Ho Silver Blingz to accent the ice cream cone......love the felties and little chipboards from Sass.

Oh, the background is Jenni Bowlin - Coordinations - LOVE that embossed cardstock and the digi frames are by Carina Gardner from 2Peas.

And speaking of Sassafras Lass.....look at what I just spotted!!! Can't wait to see the rest!

Hope you are having a great week and staying warm....it's been freezing here....we aren't used to that in Florida. Brrrrrr.

Garden Gala - New Webster's Pages

I am speechless with delight....but knowing me, I can't stay quiet for long. ;) We've got a fun game going on at Webster's this week, where you can spot the new papers with some clues on the design team's blogs. You can check out the other clues at inspireMe.

Webster's four new lines are beyond amazing!! Today I am sharing a peek at Garden Gala.....a dreamy line accented with Chinese lanterns, tea cups and little birds. WOW!! This paper is called 'Tea Time' isn't it elegant and pretty!!

We are having a chat tonight at inspireMe at 9EST, with some fabulous news about the design team and new releases..........I can't wait! Stop by and chat with us if you can. :)

As soon as it warms up a little, I am off to set up a tea party outside for me and Em. This new line has inspired me.

Give Me an E

Lots of new stuff going on this week......CHA sneaks have started.....playing with fabric.....Shimmerz news, can you feel the VIBEZ????.....new projects.....

1. This layout was chosen as LOTD at Scrapbook.com this week. Kind of fun, especially since I am in a fabric and fun color kind of mood lately. Loving the Sass....as always!

I stitched denim onto a cardstock background and added some gesso circles.

Photo frames by Carina Gardner - I just changed the colors to go with my photos in PS.

2. And a little peek at what I have been working on.......Hambly, Prima, fabric, stamping, paint, lace, stitching......yum!

3. And NEW coming from SHIMMERZ..............I am so EXCITED about this and some other news that I can't share yet......but prepare to be in awe!!

4. Also, kind of bittersweet......after much thought we decided to shut down The Next Step. You all know how I pour my heart into whatever I do.....and well, some things had to go to make room for family and designing time. I am so proud of what we accomplished with The Next Step and I plan to still post some tutorials on my personal blog.

5. The classes are going well......I am so enjoying some learning and growth time for me. I'll keep you posted on that. :)

Face to the Sun

As the new year starts, I felt like this is a good theme.....face to the sun, also the title of my painting. My mom fell in love with it while she was here and so I sent it home with her, where she needs a little sunshine. We so enjoyed her visit and she returned home on Thursday.

The background the girl is painted is a watercolor paper background I have had around for a while and when she turned out so well, I mounted it on a painted canvas and added a few embellishments.

I've been doing some scrapping this weekend and starting a project to submit for the next Sew Somerset. Still have to finish up another mixed media painting that I was working on while my mom was visiting. I've got some new layouts to share later this week.

I'm becoming a student again for a while, and it feels great.....I'm taking an online painting class - Mixed Media with the Girls by Wyanne and DJ Pettit's class that starts in the morning - Memories and Manipulations. I have been feeling like I want to mix it up a bit, you know how your work can become stale if you don't keep growing? So on that track right now.

Happy New Year to you all and I just want to say how thankful I am for your comments and visits. Bring it on 2010.....I'm ready to change and grow.
