Unconditional Love

This week's catalytst at Creative Therapy #55 is: Tell us about a time you felt unconditional love for someone or something. Of course, for me, that would be my love for Emma, my daughter.

I took a Maya Road chipboard album and layered paint, stamping, masking, charcoal and collaged hearts and simple phrases to talk about my love for her.

Just wanted to share something that I am really excited about. I have dreamed of having a technique/challenge blog of my own to share and teach mixed media techniques for scrappers wanting to go to the next step in that direction. And it is starting to come together!! So be watching for more news!!
Hope you had a great week and I'll be by to see you in blogland soon. ;)

Finally Friday

Want to see what I have been doing? ;) Here is a peek from the April kit from Scrapmuse!! Full of gorgeous papers and embellies - some Pink Paisee, Fancy Pants and some Tim Holtz stuff!!

And a layout that I made a while back and just haven't posted. I love this photo of my parents with me - my grandma always said they were 2 babies having a baby. They were both the babies in their family and at 20 & 22, they look so young. :) Love you, Mom and Dad!! xxoo

It is mostly BG Marakesh and some Sassafrass with some denim fabric in the back.

I was tagged by my online friend, Chelsea to post the 6th picture in my 6th folder. By the strange way I organize my photos it is a shot of Emma with her Jeep on Christmas morning 2008.

I am so relieved that Emma's dentist appointment went well. She was so brave and didn't cry until they brought her out to me. And now she has a fancy silver tooth!!
This has been a busy week and I am ready for the weekend!! Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you soon! :)

Signs of Spring

Spring is in bloom! The azaleas and dogwood are gorgeous. What could say spring more than a little girl dressed up with a flower in her hair? Not much, I think - I made this for the Style Star challenge going on at SIS - Spring Green. It is one of the shots that Gayle took at Michelle's wedding. I love the rich, vibrant colors of the new Prima!

And a shot showing the dimension I created with the frame.

I bought the kit from AMM this month and made a couple more layouts with it. Fun colors and more springy papers!

I layered the photo with a digital grunge mask and typed 'secrets' on it before printing - I like the effect! Emma and her buddy, Payton. A little green paint added the finishing touch.

Lots of stuff going on this week. Emma has her first filling at the dentist this week. She did great for her check-up, so I hope all goes well!
Hope you all had a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Rolling along...

Does time seem to be speeding up? Or is it just me? Since I have always stayed at home since Emma was born, I now really enjoy my time at home and hate to have a busy schedule! lol But now I seem to have a 3 year olds schedule - gymnastics, doctor appointments, play dates, and my usual hated shopping! I am sure a lot of you are reading at this and laughing, because I have no idea what it is going to be like in a few years. ;)

But I am blessed to be able to stay home and take care of my daughter and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I guess my little complaints come from a lot of interrupted creative time, but I have managed to get a little done this week. ;)

I loved this technique that Wendela shared at AMM this week and had to try it out! Note the chipboard frame. ;) Made with the gorgeous March kit from AMM.

I made real beauty for the fabric challenge at Basic Grey - Oh, how I would love to win those lovely Sultry fabrics!! I also combined it into a couple of other challenges - OLW and CCG 114. Maybe not having as much time this week made me think smarter? Do you spot my bobbin stitching again? and my fabric flowers?

This one I made for part of my DT entry for CCG - which I didn't make. I love how cute Emma looks with the candy we made from molds for Valentines Day. For some reason the color looks off in this photo - I will be glad when the lighting is better.

And one of my favorite photos that I took on the day of Michelle's wedding. You will be seeing this one again in a layout, I am sure!

So, thanks for listening! Hope everyone is having a great week and I'll see you soon!

Creative Therapy and Scrapmuse

This weekend Em and I were in a friend's wedding and I have been crazy busy!!! Just wanted to give a quick update. I've got some great photos to edit and scrap! I just saw that my layout - You're Everything is in the Hall of Fame at Scrapping the Music!! Yay! And I got the Catwalk with my fiber art piece last week, too!

This is quite possibly my most favorite piece of art that I have made:

First the rest of my work with the March kit from Scrapmuse. I wrote a technique article on how I make my painted collage backgrounds - like the one here:

And a photo that I love that I scanned from my mom's pictures. Me and one of my brothers and my sister.

Living in Florida we rarely, if ever see snow, but all winter, Emma kept asking if it would snow today. ;)

And Creative Therapy - Catalyst 53 is up! Create a piece of art around a memory or occasion that has no photos. This is what I made Michelle for her wedding gift. Inspired by Kelly Rae Roberts and the other artists in her book. It is a paper collage on a wooden base with acrylic paint and covered in bees wax.

I sketched the girls in with pencil first and then painted with acrylics.

Stop by and see the other artists take on the challenge! I promise you will be inspired! Well I am off to visit blogs and see what you all have been up to! :) See you soon!

Sewing experiment...

This month the challenge at inspireMe is to do some creative stitching on a layout. So I went all out to try something new. As you know I have been a quilter and sewer for years. My mom taught me to sew when I was 12 and I made my first quilt when I was 18, so drawing from those experiences are pretty effortless at this point. That is one of my goals this year - to try to combine more of my other artistic talents into my work.

My idea - use paper like a piece of fabric and quilt it. Also to do some bobbin work embroidery somewhere.
This is the bobbin embroidery. That is where you stitch with a heavy thread in the bobbin- bypassing your bobbin tension and sew from the back side of the paper. It turned out great! And I added some french knots and chalk to accent the flowers.

Then I wet and crumpled the paper, smoothed it out and let it dry. Then layered the paper with cotton batting and free-motion stitched over the entire piece in a meandering pattern. It added a beautiful tone-on-tone texture!

Then just did some layering of papers and this adorable photo of Em. I also cut some hot pink petals from velvet and made a flower to match the one that Emma is holding. I love feathers and I am sure you have been seeing those around lately - so these yellow ones added the perfect finishing touch along with some paper curls.

The end result!

I was unsure about my title and then looked at Scrapping the Music this week and loved this part of this song by Sugarbomb.

Anyway, that is all for now! See you soon! :D

Creative Therapy and Art Journal

My first week for the Creative Therapy Catalyst was a fun experiment for me. The challenge is - what is something you have always wanted to learn? And you know me - I am always trying new things but so often I am left with bits and pieces of things and one thing I wanted to work on this year is try to combine techniques and finish more projects.

So I started with some wire work I was playing with months ago - the bird nest and the paper beads I made that I had not used and added them to a fiber art piece. The base is felt with cloth and fibers covered with tulle and stitched together. Then I burned holes from the back side and embroidered around the holes and added a little surface stitching and the beads. I am very pleased with the result. If you get the chance I hope you will play along with us! :)

And some art journal pages - We are working on multiple layers in this week - building up to 12 on one page - I am struggling a bit not to let them get muddy and have had to paint over parts and rework - but I am learning a lot and enjoying the process. It is harder than I thought to work in such a random way - without an idea of what I want the end result to be.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and I'll see you soon! :)

Lots of News

I have been busy creating with the March kit from Scrapmuse - all grungy and rich deep colors!! So beautiful! My sweet friend, Beth is guesting this month!!

This layout is using some photos my friend, Gayle took that I just love - those tights are the cutest ever! Gayle is a fabulous photographer - I have learned so much from her!

And the kit preview -

And another layout with the kit - this one is of my youngest brother, David when he was 3 or 4 - I thought he was my baby. ;)

Stacey Michaud asked me to do a guest layout for Scrapstreet.com Magazine featuring using a letter as your journaling - it is a great e-zine full of inspiration! Here is the layout I created:

And I am excited to announce that I was asked to be on the Creative Therapy design team! My first project will go up next week. There are so many talented artists on this site and Karen wanted me to come on primarily as a mixed media artist!! So, how could I say no!! ;D My first project is a fiber art piece!! I had so much fun making it! Come play along with us! :)
I've spent a good part of today organizing my pantry, not so fun, but then worked in my art journal this evening and will share that another day. Happy Monday everyone! I'll be by to see you all soon.
