2009 Faves

Here they are: My faves for 2009 in no particular order and I think there may be more than 10, but who's counting?

Looking over my faves brought back so many's been a good year with lots of ups and downs....but more up than down. Amazing design team opportunities, seeing my articles and work published, growing artistically.....this hobby has become more to me than I ever imagined it would.

Thanks for your comments and enjoying the ride with me the past year and I can't wait to see what 2010 has in store! Happy New Year!

A Rash of News

We've had quite a lot going on with the holidays, visitors and rashes. Yes, my daughter looked liked a little Strawberry Shortcake on Christmas morning...thanks to a penicillin allergy that made itself known. We are still treating it and 90% of her body is covered but it is starting to go away a bit.

And a wonderful Christmas gift with my mom staying with us, she is still here......creating in the studio with my mom.....what a treat! We have been doing some mixed media paintings and crafting. Here's one I did using some Webster's Pages to collage my background and dress. Please be kind......this is the first face I have ever shared online. :)

Also.....some sad and happy news. My term at A Million Memories ends this month and I decided not to continue another term. My heart is a bit sad but also happy to think of the studio time for more mixed media. Also I am needing more time away from the computer as you can tell by my fewer blog posts lately. I wish Michelle and the girls there all of the best and will still be hanging out there from time to time. A Million Memories has been a wonderful home for me for the past year and I am grateful!

Beginning to look at Lot Like Christmas

Not only one of my favorite Christmas songs but I'm definitely feeling in the Christmas spirit....we had some unexpected mom and dad are here visiting and my mom is going to stay with us until next wonderful!

And an unexpected Christmas laptop keyboard went out and it was under warranty and there was a nearby technician who stopped by to fix it today!! Yay!! I have been unable to type for days.....until

A little Christmas Magic from Webster's and Shimmerz - I so love the Winter's Wings line from Webster's favorite Christmas line.....ever!

I lifted Dena Coe's idea for spraying Shimmerz Spritz on my photo paper before printing my photo. This is Baby's Breath on Epson Matte Presentation paper. The photo was a little blurry with the low light so the 'little lights' from the Shimmerz are gorgeous!

My mom and I were working on some paintings today and I am loving the results....hope I can finish soon to share.

Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!!

My Brother

I love this old photo of me and my brother Joe....weren't we cute?

The DT at A Million Memories did a lift of Sasha Holloway and this was my take on it from some of the gorgeous Crate Paper that was in the fun RAK I won on Amy Tara's blog a while back.

Joe's birthday is today, the 17th so this is to celebrate him! :)

Happy Birthday, Joe!!

Also, we just returned from the Magic Kingdom....Emma's first trip to Disney, I'm kind of tired but we had a wonderful trip. The Christmas lights were beautiful....I'm editing some pics but here is one to share today......

Hope you are prepared for a magical Christmas......I'm getting in the mood after this.

December AMM Layouts

I was thrilled at how quickly my layouts with the A Million Memories December kit cam together.....loved working with it! Here are some pics and close-ups of my work.

Painted around the edge of the paper with Black Shimmerz and cut the ladies from the G-45 paper - this one is based on the December Sketch by Stacy.

Not sure if you can tell but I added a texture to this photo and a grunge edge playing with my photos - and the color almost matched the ribbon perfectly!

Some days it is just too hard to smile, isn't it? ;)

I masked over the Making Memories vintage trim before cutting it apart with Baby's Breath Shimmerz Spritz. Love the amazing iridescence against the Jenni Bowlin Coordination Cardstock - that was from my own stash.

Digital photo grouping by Carina Gardner - love how you can print all of the photos together and just cut them out! So easy!

I inked over the silver trims here with Sharpies.

An old picture of me, around 4 years old. Wasn't I cute? lol

Thanks for looking at my projects with the kit this month! See you soon.

Masked Fabric Art Quilt

Coming to you from Missouri, yes......someone missed their plane.....that's right.....laugh away, I had to so I didn't cry. So now, back to Florida on Friday.....

In other news.......Shimmerz Spritz is perfect for masking on fabric as you can see on this video I made. It added an amazing sheen and color to my masked mini quilt. Take a look at how I started this project:

I added a little more misting to this after I finished the video - the dress form is Chickadee Spritz the shadow masking, Ruby Spritz and then I added a little 4 Leaf Clover on the right side and Mango Madness over the left edge of the Ruby to add a little more color.

To make my sample into a mini quilt: I layered the masked fabric with cotton batting and a cotton backing, creating a quilt sandwich and with light yellow embroidery thread, free motion quiltied the outline of the dress form first and filled the background with a random pattern. After completing the quilting I straightened the edges and zig-zag stitched them to stop any fraying.

Then, hand stitched some paper doilys onto the sides and layered a few embellishments.

The top has some gold Hambly rub-ons applied after the quilting - I love the look of rub-ons on fabric.

I have some other samples from creating my video and I'll share those with you as I complete them.
Thanks and I hope you enjoy another way to play with your Shimmerz Spritz! To see all of the DT videos together in one place visit the Ed Team Vlog.

About the missed flight.....I went to the wrong airport, if you can belive that one......I am slightly accident prone, those that know me will attest to, laughing through my tears this morning.....especially after I had to purchase more expensive tickets with no refund.

Who knows what will happen next? Snow flurries on the mom said maybe something good will come from this.....let's not hope for a early blizzard or anything. ;)

Also, forgot to share.....I had a couple of layouts on the Cosmo Cricket blog yesterday! What a fun suprise to see them on my google reader....I was thinking....those look familiar. ;)

Behind the Masks Challenge

I am hosting the bi-weekly challenge at A Million Memories starting today and my challenge is to use found objects - or anything that isn't a screen or stencil as your mask on a project. Those lids in the kitchen, check.....left over chipboard negatives, check....old lace or doilies, check....the list goes on and on.

Here are the samples I made for this challenge also using some gorgeous Prima that Michelle and Prima sponsored the DT with! Thanks!!

Left over Scenic Route chipboard butterflies - misted with Ruby and Plum Pudding Shimmerz Spritz.

The outlining is using a Write-Out pen - it gives a really solid white line.

A paper doily masked with Concrete Shimmerz Spritz - lace always adds a soft, romantic look.

A swirl Fancy Pants chipboard negative - only I used paint this time - Seafoam Shimmerz - love the heavy iridescence!!

If you would like to play along just post your project to the AMM gallery and link it to this thread in the Challenges section by Dec. 12. Hope to see you there! There is a RAK

Em and I are still visiting in Missouri and have been enjoying our time with Mammy and Papa and the cousins. Heading back home on Tuesday for time with Daddy! It will be good to get home and rest up. ;)
