Sew Somerset

I have been keeping a wonderful secret!! I just received my copy of Sew Somerset - they have published 3 of my pieces and an article in this issue. I am simply stunned to find my work in a magazine that Ruth Rae has the cover on! This issue is jam packed with gorgeous projects and I am thrilled to be included!!

My project is mixed media fabric and paper cards - I scanned in the photos so you can see! They did a great job with the photos and article - I guess you can tell I am a little excited!! ;D This is my first publication!!

Thanks to everyone checking on me while I was sick - I am feeling much better and Emma is doing fine, too. I actually got to scrap some yesterday with my December kit from Scrapmuse - I'll have some new stuff to show this week. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!

Quick Update

Just a quick update - I have been so sick! I had a allergic reaction to some Lysol with my cold and that started an asthma flare-up and I have had no energy to do anything and uncontrollable coughing when I talk - you can imagine how difficult that has been! Emma has been a brave and busy little nurse - getting me drinks and patting on my arm- I am so happy to see such a sweet loving side to her personality. The dyes from my papers are aggravating my lungs so I just have a couple of LOs I did last week to share.

This was for Color Combos Galore - Emma wasn't quite as enthused about trick-or-treating when she realized she had to go door to door. lol The little owls are from my friend, Mahlin! Thanks!

Beauty - is for the November challenge at inspireMe - for non-event journaling. I have written a few of my thoughts on beauty to Emma - mostly about the importance of inner beauty over outer.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone - hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow with your friends and family. I am especially thankful for my family this year - what a blessing they are in my life.
I'll be around later to check in on everyone and see what you have been up to! :) Anyone going shopping on Black Friday? You could not pay me enough money to go shopping on Friday!! Good luck to anyone who attempts it! ;D

My Workshop Class

Just wanted to share some pictures from my workshop that I am teaching at Bad Girls for their Christmas Workshop - if you want to see details and instructions just check out the forum under 'Pre-Workshop Classes'.

I have used the inside of 2 mini canvases to make a hinged mini shadow box display! Isn't it cute?!? Come play along if you can!

I received the sweetest award from Gillian - she nominated my blog for the Kreative Blogger Award! Gillian is a mixed-media artist - her work is gorgeous!! Thank you, Gillian!!
On another note - I am still sick and so I will keep this post brief- happy creating everyone!

Sort of Creative Weekend

Well, in between trying to recover from my neck and shoulder (see previous post) I caught a respiratory thing from Mark and am coughing as I type - aren't you glad you can't catch it through the computer? ;D And not to be complaining to much because I did have a good weekend anyway. :)

I got busy and made some new LOs to share...this one was kind of hard to photograph so please excuse the poor photos - the background is one of those KI Memories sheers - Love those!! I played around with altering this photo and just tried to have fun with it.

I think this photo is so hilarious!! Emma gave Kholin (her cousin) a kiss and the expression on his face is priceless!! I made this in less than an hour in a crop at SIS this weekend. You gathered a list of supplies and then completed the steps - so quick and fun!

I do have 2 more to share but will have to get to them later - Hope everyone had a great weekend. :)

Material World at Scrapmuse

This month we focused on fabric at Scrapmuse, Traci included 3 different fabrics and some felt for inspiration. I wrote an article on ideas for fabric in your layouts - you can see it here.

The photo in Nature Walk has a story behind it - Em was not wanting her picture taken and is actually crying while walking with my mom - hence the 'not exactly'.

Can you believe those curls? It had been raining out and Em's hair was just all corkscrews in the back!

This is my favorite of these LOs - I painted onto the photo and free form cut the felt and stitched the edges to make my own flowers. I love that little dreamy face. :)
I have been a little out of it for the past couple of days - I hurt my shoulder and neck lifting Em when she got her foot stuck in her swing- she weighs almost 40 lbs and I don't have a lot of upper body strength - so I have not been able to sit at the computer for very long. I'll be by to check in with everyone later and see what you have all been doing. See you soon. :)

Christmas Workshop at Bad Girls and My Greatest Gift

I have some exciting news!! I will be teaching a pre-workshop class for Bad Girls!! There are so many free classes planned and lots of prizes! The class schedule and supply lists are already posted! Hope you can check it out! My class is on November 17th - a Christmas shadow box made from 2 mini canvases - it is still a suprise so I will post a photo later! ;D

Also I just finshed a new LO for the GDT challenge at CMK - The challenge was to scrap your greatest gift, use red and have a bow on the page. Of course my greatest gift is Em - bet you already guessed that! The journaling is kind of sappy but real: Without knowing or even trying you are the greatest gift of my life - my precious child. You have brought the wonderful gift of joy to our lives - your smiles and your laughter bring sunshine.

My greatest gift. :)

MMM and Dans ma maison il y a...

I decided to combine my project for Mixed Media Monday and Dans ma Maison this week. MMM was - the Human body or parts thereof and Dans ma Maison was a house of course with words - at least that was my poorly interpreted french.

I tried a couple of things that I really liked the results of on my house. The black-brown texture is embossing powder and the gold chandelier is by 7 gypsies - the door is polymer clay with a gate stamp rubbed with stain and then highlighted with some new gold ink I just bought that is wonderful!!! The edge of the house is the metal book edges cut in 1/2 by 7 gypsies - I used a charcoal pencil for some depth and shading.

I think I am going to do a little house theme for a while - it was very inspiring! Thanks for taking the time to stop by! Happy Monday!

Mind Wide Open - Beloved

This month's image at Mind Wide Open made me instantly think of a window - then the prompt was beloved and the lady seemed to have a wistful expression - so this is my result. It is approx. 8x10 in size.

My process went something like this - I started by printing the image onto a transparency and then with acrylic paint - back painted the details of her face and then her body to make the woman stand out more. Then I collaged a background on watercolor paper with stamped tissue, book pages and paint - then attached the image to the collage. Then I used gesso to paint around the windows and sprinkled glitter on the window frame and 'icicles for some icy shine. These glittery evergreen branches added the finishing touch of a snowy landscape - in my mind.

I so enjoyed playing with the creative process on this project - if you have time go look at the other entries on the Mind Wide Open site! They are amazing! (you can go vote for the one you like best)

Happy Sunday morning everyone!! Thanks so much for the sweet comments you left for Emma about her bird houses in the previous post! She was so excited when I read them to her and told her about the ladies liking her work! It really made my day and her's too!! :)

Birdhouses and challenges

I have been trying to keep creating daily and it has really been fun! This LO is for 2 different challenge blogs that I like: TDX - Challenge #34 - About what makes you laugh and Method Playground's - Paper Pleating.

I used some more fun stuff from my BGs kit to make this 6x12 LO - I just added the brads, flowers and trims from my stash. Emma really has a funny sense of humor and likes to make you laugh by being silly and telling jokes - This photo really makes me smile!

Emma requested that I share her latest crafting project, too! She painted these 2 wooden birdhouses at my mom's this week. She did it entirely by herself - I was really impressed! So I will be sure to let her see any comments you leave for her! lol

Hope everyone is having a great weekend - I am looking forward to my altered meeting tomorrw. Nan is sharing some of her techniques for making inchies. I will post mine - if they are decent to share! ;D

Color Combos Challenge #95

I have looked at this challenge blog several times but never jumped on in and since I am trying to create something everyday - I thought I would give it a try. Color Combos Galore gives a 4 color combo to use for a LO each week. This week it is sienna, chartreuse, straw, and gray.

I have been trying to play with some of my photos that I already have printed and used some sharpies to doodle on the photo and layout. I just pulled paper from everywhere - Luxe, Sassafrass, K&Co., Rose Moka and some Melissa Frances, Fancy Pants and Chatterbox embellies. It seem a little washed out to me but I like the doodling and stitching - it was a fun project to play with.

My LO 'Sublime' was just accepted into the Basic Grey gallery, too! :)

Busy, Busy..

I can't believe how busy things have been lately! Good, but busy! Just a couple of updates - a LO and a little toot. ;D

First a LO - I have some wonderful photos of my great-grandmother that I love to use in vintage LOs - this photo is from the late 1890's and was taken near Independence, Iowa. I made it for the Prima BAP November LO contest so everything is Prima - except for the alphas.

I've been working on a class and some other projects, too - and my little toot - my LO 'Woodland Fairy' was chosen as LOTD at CMK! - I just joined over there where my friend Staci is on the DT.

Have a great week! And don't forget to vote! :)

November Scrapmuse Reveal

Traci pulled together a fun, bright kit this month with a focus on fabric!! You know how much I love fabric! lol I am writing an article in the newsletter this month on ideas about adding fabric to your LOs - she is including 3 different fabrics and some felt in the kit to play with! Here is a preview:

I wanted to share one of the LOs I made with the kit. I cut some of the fabric into squares and layered them under the photo. The prima clear journaling blocks are fabulous and I painted under mine so you can read the journaling. I did add the gold AC letters to really pop the title. The journaling reads: I know that look..your head dropps down, your lip pokes out...eyes downcast and not a smile to be seen. You have perfected the girly POUT!

Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! Em was a reluctant trick-or-treater. She is scared of strangers - which is ok with me. We went to a neighborhood near our house - she got pretty scared when a man was chasing kids with a REAL chainsaw - it was running, too! Some people have no sense. So I don't think that improved the scared of strangers thing for her - but can you blame her? lol That didn't stop her from enjoying her candy, however. How was your Halloween?
