Vacation Pics

I'm baaaccckkk!! It's funny how I didn't realize how much I would miss the internet!

Here are just a few shots from our trip.

We had a great trip & I just downloaded my 300+ pictures I took! Isn't that ridiculous?!? Of course I had to weed out the out of focus, goofy, bad ones! And out of that I have maybe 5-6 I want to scrap. Hmmm...Makes me glad I have a digital camera.

I've been trying to catch up on my email & message boards that I post on. At Scrapmuse we are doing a Q&A for the guest DT - me & Donna Salazar. I will be continuing at Scrapmuse next month as a guest DT!! I am excited! It will be really fun!

Grow - OLW Challenge

This LO is for the One Little Word challenge "grow". The journaling reads: All things grow with love. A life lesson from Grammy & Papa.
These pictures were taken last year when Em helped my parents plant a garden. I just love that little chubby hand covered in dirt.

Vacation!!

Well, I am going to be out for a few days! We are going to the beach! I'm really looking forward to some family time. I have been so wrapped up in my scrapbooking, it will be good for me to just focus on Mark & Emma for a while. :-)

I am so grateful to my brother, Joe, who rented this condo for a month & is letting us use it for the last week of April! Of course, he is in Belize right now & I am sure is having a wonderful time!

I have finished my LO's for Patti's Sketches - they will be on her blog in May. I will post them after she does. They went together quickly for me. I am really pleased with the results! I can't wait to share them when I get back.

I shall return with pictures of our trip. Hope you all have a wonderful rest of the week. I think I'll miss my blog while I am gone. ;-)

Garden Handmade Book

This is a book I made about a year ago with pictures of Em helping her Mammy & Papa plant a garden at their house. It is one of the first books I made myself & was a work in progress. It was an assignment for a flip book, so as usual I went crazy with the flips! I love the pictures in this album!

Most of the papers are from Basic Grey & the stamps are Christine Adolph & Autum Leaves. I seem to remember some 7 gypsies stickers, prima flowers, & otherwise I'm not sure!

My Grandma

I just finished this LO about my grandma with the kit from A Million Memories. They have had a fun challenge weekend going on called Scrapcation. This is for one of the challenges. It has been in my head for a while & I have wanted to use this picture for so long. The papers are by Websters papers & I love the vintage feel to them. I also copied the layered buttons from my friend Gayle who just used them beautifully on an altered plate from our group.

My grandma was a wonderful woman & I love her dearly. She always said that she thought she had seen this face before about me. She always thought I looked like her. I am also her namesake & her baby's baby. My journaling is the 10 things I love most about...my grandma:

1. She loved her family.
2. She loved nature & collected rocks.
3. She loved coffee.
4. She always wore a blouse with a collar. And skirts.
5. She loved to play cards.
6. She was kind.
7. She had beautiful green eyes. Like my daddy.
8. I was named after her.
9. She was my grandma.
10. She loved me.

I really miss her.

New Horizons

I just finished this LO this afternoon with the end of my Bad Girls kit. The challenge was to use a song title or lyrics in your journaling. This picture make me think of how Em's horizon is constantly growing & about her interaction with the world around her. The lyrics I chose are from 'I hope you dance' by Leann Womack.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking.
Loving might be a mistake but it's worth making...
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance..
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance..
I hope you dance.

These other 2 LO's are some that I just haven't posted from at least a month ago. I love them but can see my style changing just from looking at them. They are some of my favorite pictures.

ScrapMuse April Projects!!!

Well, I can finally share what I did with the ScrapMuse April kit!! This month I am a guest DT member for them. The newsletter just came out this evening. I wrote a step-by-step instruction on the altered journal that I did with the kit - it is in the newsletter if you would like to see it. I did a gel medium transfer with the photo & them collaged the covers & inked.

Then I made 3 Layouts with the kit.

On Posing - I stamped the camera stamp randomly on the green background with Versamark to make my own coordinating paper.

The little quote on the card is something Em repeats from one of her favorite shows right now. Max & Ruby. Whenever she is making a card she always wants the "bluebird of happiness sticker". Of course, I think she is too cute. But then I'm the mommy. :)

I was really challenged to use this kit but ended up loving it! I have noticed my work has changed just from pushing myself & not choosing what I think is the perfect paper, embellishment or letters. It has made me look at my work with new eyes and that alone is the best thing being on a DT has done for me.

Live 24/7

I have been recovering from our fun trip to Orlando on Wednesday. We went to a class given by Michelle van Etten - a Prima educator - she was teaching their new clear album with interchangeable pages, like hearts, circle, diff sizes, ect. Great class, just needed more time! I will try to get my book finished & put it up soon.

Just finished this LO from the Bad Girls kit. I am trying to finish all of my projects from one kit at a time. I figure if I will buy the kit I need to make at least 2-3 LOs from it. I still have one more idea I am going to do.

I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (love this stuff) to mask on the background with the lace paper & then used it on top with the embellishments, too. This phot is an older one taken at Orange Beach last fall. It has been so fun to use this kit with the products & make it my own.

Baby Bird

I really love this picture of my mom & my sister, Susie. I asked my mom if I could scrap it & she hesitated. At first I thought it was because it is hard for her to look at pictures of my sister. But then she said that, she had never liked that picture of herself. So, sorry mom, but you are always beautiful to me. This picture represents such sweetness to me; how young & innocent they both look & such love of a mother holding her baby. Hence the title.

I used the April kit from Bad Girls for this & once again - using papers I wouldn't buy & colors I usually use - I made a LO I absolutely love. I was inspired my Allison Schubert's DT LO for this one, I didn't realize how much until I looked back at the DT gallery at BG.

Well I'm off today to take an incredible class at Scrappy Boutique in Orlando. They are offering a new Prima class with one of the Prima instructors. It is their new build a book - acrylic & they will be using the new Prima!!! I am so excited!! I'll show you the end result tomorrow.

Scrap N Art

Susan at A Million Memories just let me know that we both have LOs in the new ezine, Scrap N Art! My LO is "This is me"

I put the link under ezine above. It is full of gorgeous LOs! I am excited to be chosen. The file is kind of big but it's worth downloading.

New Bad Girls Kit

I just subscribed to Bad Girls Kits & the April kit arrived yesterday! It has some neat papers in it that I would never buy normally, so that makes for an interesting LO. You know how I just LOVE American Crafts. But I actually like some of these. Oh, and I never buy anything purple even though I like it ok. So, here it is :

I added the Hambly transparency & painted under it. I actually really like it a lot. What do you think? Is it me, only brighter?

Also - Yeahhh!! My prize package from Basic Grey came in the mail yesterday!! I got the Cupcake line - I would have gotten Sultry or Sugared but I already bought them before I knew I won the fiber contest. Cupcake has some really cute papers, though & the rub on roller is so cool! It's like a pen with a large rolling ball on the end. It was helpful because you don't lift it & get the dreaded tearing of the rub on that I get so many times. It also came with the rub ons & fiber. So neat to get something for free!!

Fabric Paper

I was the instructor for our technique in the altered club on Sunday and I taught fabric paper. This is an awesome layering process where you collage patterned papers & stamped or printed tissue paper on muslin with watered down decoupage glue.

The results are always so different & I have used this to make backgrounds for assemblages, cards, book covers, and so many more things. I first read about this process in Mixed Media Exploration by Beryl Taylor. You know how much I love her work if you have been following my blog for a while.

These are the two pieces I made in the class time. They are approx 12x14 so a great size to cut up for other projects. If you would like to try it out just make sure you stamp with Stazon or else the ink will run in the glue. I also sprinkle some pigment powders in mine to give some sparkle. You can also add fabric, fibers, alngelina, glitter - just use your imagination. If you try it please send me a picture so I can see your results!

Everyone really enjoyed the project & we had a wonderful time sharing our altered plates. They were all so beautiful & unique! I will see if I can get some pictures of the others to share.

Vintage Altered Plate

Well here is my altered plate that I made for the altered club!! I am really pleased with how it came out. The gluing was a little tricky. I used E-6000, which has the most horrible odor. Make sure you ventilate if you ever use it!
This photo is of my grandma who was born is 1917 & I believe it was taken when she graduated from HS. I had this picture in my room when I was growing up & it has always been so special to me. Grandma told my mom that the blouse she was wearing was a black satin tunic. I just love the flowers at her throat and I tried to give a similar effect with the embellishments. I have a couple more plates to do & I will hang them together in my dining room.
Well, I am off to see what the other ladies have created!! Can't wait to see every one's plates & share mine.

St. Augustine Mini Album

This is a mini album I made from brown paper bags for a class at Scrappy Papers last summer We originally started out as a Pinecone Press book club but later changed it to our own style. Now we meet monthly & share our projects based on either a theme or paper line. I is so much more creative & I love it.

So funny to look at these pictures again and see how much Em has grown. Time has flown by. Her first trip to the beach & she wouldn't put her feet in the sand & was scared of how loud the ocean was. The pool was a hit, though! What great memories & I am so glad I have preserved them. Em loves looking at my mini books, too.

Sheer Heart Mini Album

I just finished this sheer album by Maya Road with these cute pictures of Emma. She loves to dress up & look pretty. My mom bought her this little dress & she wanted to wear it every day for a week.

The papers are from Fancy Pants new Simplicity line & I added lot so f extras from home. The edges are painted with crackle paint by Ranger & then I added gold leaf edging. My friend, Nan suggested that & that it would look like old china. She was so right! I think it finished it off perfectly.
This was going to be my altered submission to the DT call at AMM. Which I decided not to do. I need some creative time for me right now & as much as I would love to do it; I felt it wasn't the right time for me.

Hit the 1000 Mark

1000 visitors to my blog!! unbelievable! and i though-who would want to see what I do? I promise I don't check it every 20 minutes to run up the numbers. :)

A big thank you to everyone who has visited here & left a comment or just took the time to look around.

I love my crafty life!

Explore Art - A Mixed Media Project

This is a 7 Gypsies accordion book that I made into an altered art exploration. Last year I took a class with Michele Charles from Ranger & was totally hooked on altered. I just wanted a project to experiment on & try out new techniques. It also feeds one of my other addictions - rubber stamps. :)

I haven't finished the purse that it goes into but I don't think it will fit anyway!
Nan gave me the coolest quote the other day - I guess she was tired of hearing my agonize over my work. It seems to apply to most of us who doubt our work & are always looking for validation. I am in this category often.
"The greater the artist the greater the doubt; perfect confidence is granted to the less talented as a consolation prize." - Robert Hayes in Time
Now, not that I am calling myself a great artist or anything but we all need encouragement. lol
