Fly

This is my favorite LO that I have done. This one of those photos that just seem magical.

You might not be able to tell in the picture but I have highlighted the wings with a glitter pen. The pink pp & frame are digital from IOD (primahybrid), the physical pp are all prima, too. I also hand glittered this Fancy Pants chipboard. The title is BG chipboard, lace is vintage, ribbon - Making Memories. The journaling reads: My beautiful little butterfly...that's what you look like to me in this picture. Float, flutter, fly...fly free.

I haven't posted in a few days because I went to Orlando with Gayle & Nan to the Scrapbooking Expo. We had a great time & I will share some photos later. When we went to the crop on Friday night there was a guard at the parking garage that couldn't stop laughing at us as we were unloading our massive amounts of crop supplies. You other scrappers can visualize this, I am sure! LOL We also found a great store (scrapbooking, of course) & signed up for a new Prima class using their new clear album next month. I will be looking forward to that. My favorite purchase was the new pp line by Daisy D's. It is so beautiful in person! It wasn't something I would have ordered without seeing how cool it was first. Anyway a great time was had by all.

Mothers & Daughters Chipboard Album

This album is a tribute to the mothers & daughters in our family. My hope is that Emma can have the best of each one of us in her.

I AM a artist!

Emma so loves crafting with me & my friends. I took these pic of her serious at work on a painting. She loves to stamp & cut. Her favorite descriptions are: isn't it so beautiful, this is gorgeous, that is very important.

I made the mistake of asking her did she want to be an artist when she grows up. Her response was - " I AM a ARTIST!" LOL And she really is. I am so happy to have a crafting buddy like Em.

This LO is for Scrapmuse's Pencil Sketch for March. I love the bright colors of these new papers from Scenic Route.

Working like crazy...

I've been working on so many new projects you can't even see my tabletop! I just finished this LO last night for the BG fiber challenge:

I so love this picture of my mom & her mother. My journaling reads: My mother is the youngest of eight children & I have always felt very strongly that she is still Grandma's baby. - My grandma is 90 now & she is still her little girl - forever.

Ever since I have become a mother it has dramatically changed my perspective of other people's relationships. I never realized how much a child meant to their parents - no matter how old they are. So, thanks, Mom & Dad. I love you.

Just wanted to add that "my girl" has been on the Two Peas Top 10 by votes all day!!! Yay!!

Girly-Girl

I finished this shop sample last night & was really pleased with how the chipboard elements came out. This is Two-Scoops by Basic Grey & I love the colors, even though I rarely work with pastels. So of course I had to embellish a little further with some Stickles & jewels.

This is me: I haven't done many self potrait type LOs, but I really felt like this describes me right now. I am so enjoying the creative process in my life & feel I am really growing. Em actually took this photo for me. :) I set up the tri-pod & told her to push the button. The black floral & blue are digital pp from Thrift Chic by Kim Christianson - prima hybrid. & the photo was layered with a grunge mask to get the rough edges.

Basic Grey Fiber Challenge

Just finished this card for the Basic Grey fiber challenge. I don't usually make cards but these little people really spoke to me. :)

I am working on a LO to enter too but I have got to get on the ball because it has to be submitted by the 25th. That is when I am supposed to get the kit from Scrap Muse! I can hardly wait to see what they have in store for me! I am looking forward to the challenge.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with your friends & family. We spent the day at my parents house. Mark got the flu while out of town & didn't make it home. :( But Emma enjoyed her time with Mammy & Papa.

Shop Samples

Gayle & I are starting to make shop samples for our local scrapbook store (Scrappy Papers). It is especially challenging to me because the owner wants them to be pretty simple so that new scrappers won't be intimidated by all of the embellishments & complicated LOs. So how do you keep your work still "you" & yet simplified? I am working toward a happy medium - I hope. :) I don't want to sound critical because not even a year ago I thought I wouldn't ever be able to do a 12x12 without assistance from Gayle. But I am very happy to be showing others how to do LOs & combining papers. It is exciting to encourage & teach others something you love.

So anyway, here is my first sample:

The pp are all Basic Grey & I cut the pp into strips on the side & layered & overlapped them. Just added a few simple cross stitches and an old photo of me & my dad that I love. I think I was 6 or 7 in this photo. The journaling reads: My dad always made me feel so safe in his arms. Love you, Daddy. Chipboard letters by Cosmo Cricket & jewels by MAMBI.

I am working on 2 others that are almost done.

And I am trying to finish my altered item for the A Million Memories DT call. I'll post those projects when I can. Happy Easter to everyone tomorrow.

New Layout

I did this page LO for a challenge called 4 not so easy rules.

1. Only use patterned pp.
2. Leave lots of white space.
3. Hand written journaling.
4. Only 1 hour to complete. - that was the hardest for me.

The journaling reads: The perfect Halloween costume - One Cinderella dress....19.95 - Glass slippers....6.95 - Glitzy crown....5.95 - Finding your inner princess (and me remembering forever) PRICELESS -

Think MC commercial. I am also going to use this for the OLW challenge - Find - because I think the journaling fits the theme perfectly.

Also posted this LO on the a million memories gallery & was given the LO of the Day! I was so flattered. These are some of my favorite pictures of Em & I love how the photo collage turned out.

ScrapMuse April Guest Designer!!!

Wow! I can hardly believe it! When I checked my email tonight I found an invitation to be the Guest Designer in April for ScrapMuse. I of course, said I would be delighted. Delighted is putting it mildly. :) There March kit looks so awesome & I can't wait to see what I get to work with for April. I'll keep you posted. :)

I've got several new projects going that I will hopefully get finished this week. One is a mini album of our zoo trip (which isn't turning out to be so mini) & some LOs for some contests. So the office work is done for a few days & time to get creative!

I have been playing with some digital stuff & just want to share one quick thing that I'm working on. The papers are IOD & the floral borders are by Rhonna Farrer- Urban Junque Borders. I love this picture of Em.

Faux Dichro Glass

I made these on our Art Thursday. My friend, Tomi made faux dichro glass charms for our charm swap on Sunday. She gave us a quick tutorial based on Tim Holtz's technique.

I made mine on sea glass. There is an online video to see Tim's demo. It is a lot of fun. The only thing I added was some glitter embossing powder and Angelina film that I cut into small pieces. They are layered in like the mylar. I added some iridescent embossing powder, too. I love how they came out.

I am going to wire wrap these & make a necklace charm.

Photo Overlays

Aren't these photo frames gorgeous?!?! I just got them from 2 peas last night. They are called French Laundry by Sandy Kreiger.

All you have to do is open them in PS & drop & drag them over your photo. I edited my photos first. They come in 4x6 & 5x7. I will definitely use these. I uploaded them to Shutterfly & ordered some for my mom & grandma. I think they will love the vintage touch.

Anyway I haven't had any time to work on any new LOs this week because I have been catching up on my "real job" - doing the accounting for our business. We are having our Art Thursday at my house this afternoon. I can't wait to get the creative juices flowing!!

But I did find time to order some of my favs from CHA that have just started coming in. A Million Memories has some really cute stuff from Websters Papers & Cherry Arte. Two Peas has lots of new stuff too. There goes my crafty budget for the month. But at least this is a relatively harmless addiction - I mean who can it hurt? except maybe my checkbook? ;)

Just thinking about wax

I had so enjoyed the waxed tags we made on Sunday that I got to thinking about my other wax projects. These are 5x5 canvas' that were collaged with beeswax.

I inked & distressed the canvas first then I stamped all of the images onto tissue paper & layered them on with the hot wax. I love the translucent quality the wax gives. I even added some handmade papers & paper flowers. This picture doesn't really do them justice.
I am working with the computer tricks picture from a few days ago to do something similar. I recently got some Lazertran so I may try that. Just lots of random ideas floating in my mind today (and every day).

Photo Day

Today I took some pictures for my friend, April makes these adorable hair bows & shirts to sell. She is starting up a blog to showcase them & asked me to do some photos. This one of Em & Pate is adorable but I am going to work on the lighting some. It really shows their cute personalities.

I asked Emma to show me what a model does & this must be it! Watch out world. ;0
My sweet baby face.
I didn't think I would really post a lot of personal things on my blog but this is my favorite thing I did today. Photography is becoming so important to me. I don't believe in only scrapping the perfect photos, but I do want the right emotion or memories. I got a Nikon D40 last year & it has been the best purchase I have ever made. It has completely changed my scrapbooking & it makes my blog so much prettier. I am also learning how to use Photoshop, too. WOW!!! it is amazing.

Charm Swap

Our altered group met today & exchanged the charms we had made. Wow, I was so impressed with the others work. Here is a picture of them & a few more that I made. Isn't this cute!!!

Today our technique was waxed tags. My friend Michelle gave the instructions for the class. She & I experimented with these this summer & they are so fun. They use Tim Holtz (who I love) distress inks, stamping, distressing & then layering with hot wax to finish. Here is the one I made. I clear embossed the winged lady stamp first to have a resist. I think it turned out pretty.

The next pic is Michelle's tag she brought in various stages of completion to demo.

These are some I did last summer-

We are starting to get a really fun group. I love it!!!!

You Two

You guys look so cute together! Emma really enjoys her time with Mark now. When I get together with my art buddies they always do fun stuff together & I can really see them getting closer & closer. It is so sweet to me.

This LO is for a million memories March challenge. They gave you a page sketch by Valerie Salmon to start. This is my take on it. I just love the shaped papers that are our now. These papers are by Making Memories. It always feels a little funny to work from a sketch. Like it's not completely your own. But I also like the challenge of trying to make it unique.

Computer Tricks

Can I just say how much I love Jessica Sprague's new publication "Computer Tricks for Scrapbooking 2". She makes hybrid & digital LOs look effortless & amazingly easy. If you want to learn about digital you should get it immediately. I just got it yesterday & was playing around with a LO idea she uses with screen layers. How awesome is that!!! You can see her link on my blog list. This is just the start of a hybrid LO or maybe a background. The papers are digital from IOD's Steel Toe Mary Jane's (primahybrid.c0m). Thank you Jessica!!!

One Little Word Challenge: Time

Just finished this LO for the weekly challenge with OLW. The journal sticker reads: " happy times... It might not be obvious here but this is quality you and me time - I'm behind the camera. :)" The hidden journaling is just some stream of conscious journaling so it's not very organized: " My random thoughts on Time- Time...take the time - remember the time?...moments in time - how about just living it. Enjoying all the time we have together. Not wasting time worrying. Everytime you smile, learn something new, good times- great times together. Moments of time are memories. I want to have all the time in the world for you. I love my time with you. My thoughts on time...March 5, 2008" Emma always calls us "the 2 girls" Isn't that sweet?
I guess I had more thoughts about time that I thought. Anyway this is my first time doing the OLW challenge. I really liked haveing a word to focus on to get started. What a great site they have & lots of amaziningly tallented people. Check it out.

I've Been Tagged....

Iris tagged me today. so here are 7 things you might not know about me....

1. i love to read - mostly sci-fi & mystery

2. i hate to put away laundry. isn't the dryer just like a big drawer?

3. i don't think i could do a LO without patterned paper. it is my favorite addiction.

4. i used to teach quilting classes & love to sew. my mom taught me to sew when i was 12 & i made lots of my own clothes.

5. i was home-schooled. i'm still not sure what i want to do about Emma's. but i still have a couple of years to decide.

6. i love sugar. almost anything sweet. which isn't good for my weight.

7. i am trying to learn to not be my own worst critic. but i still love myself inperfections & all.

ok that's me!! I'm tagging Gayle & Chelsea.

My Charms....

for our altered group swap - not my personal. ;) I have been working for days on these charms. Whew....first i thought i would use shrink plastic but they were too unpredictable. (or i was trying to add too many elements) finally settled with this.

So here is my creative process:

1. Paint fusible web with metallic acrylic paints & let dry

2. Paint iron-on interfacing (non-woven) with Dye-na-Flo or inks

3. Paint chipboard with gold metallic paint.

4. Iron web to one side of chipboard. Use a non-stick sheet or parchment paper& don't peel off until cool. Then iron interfacing to other side of chipboard. (I experimented with ironing the fusible web to canvas, paper towels, & to the painted interfacing with various results which I loved but weren't stable enough for my project. see ex.

My friend, Nan has really gotten me into this palette of green & blues. Don't you just love it?

5. I then stamped both sides of my covered chipboard with various stamps & Stazon ink. Then layered with angelina, & sprinkled with different embossing powders. and then a coat of clear on top.

6. Cut your embellished chipboard into your desired size. Mine was 1" sq.

7. Emboss the edges with gold embossing powder & punch holes to set eyelets for jump rings.

8. I also wanted to add a dangle charm at the bottom & used a shell & glued a butterfly charm onto it. So attach your jump rings & you are ready to wear or give away your charm.

We have 10 ladies in this swap so I can't wait until Sunday to see what goodies I get. I'll post the results later. Have a great day.

I can't believe it!!!!

I WON!!! Remember the IOD sketch contest I entered? Well.....I can't believe it. They chose my layout " Children are the flowers of life". And they also chose my layout "dream" & did a page sketch on their blog! I am obviously very excited. I have never won in a contest before. Of course Mark smirked & said "well, I guess you are on your way". lol. Anyway, go check out the very flattering things they said about my work. http://ironorchiddesigns.typepad.com/iod/ Here are my layouts again. Thanks so much to the ladies at Iron Orchid Designs.
