New Layouts

I really love this new LO I finished this week. I told you it has been an inspired week! The Basic Grey die cuts made such a cute element on this page. I had to hold my breath when I started to write on the photo. My handwritten journalling is notoriously messy, but I make myself use it because I think it is important for Em to see the unique-ness.

This LO is hybrid the floral pp & frame is from Primahybrid http://www.primahybrid.com/shoppe/product.php?productid=19587&cat=0&page=1 & I just layered my photo over the journaling block & dropped the opacity, Printed then layered on a 12x12 & added embellishments. It seems that one of the current trends is simple pages. My personal style is usually busier with more details but I think this is simply beautiful.

On another note... I was very disappointed last night when I received an email from prima saying I didn't make the Garden Girl Team. But to quote Emma & Princess Jasmine "Keep trying, And never give up." It has been a lot of work attempting to get published or on a design team. I love my work & it is hard to be rejected based on it. But it challenges me to improve & plus you really don't know what they are currently looking for. I'll keep working on it. But I am going to focus on enjoying my work & creating from my heart & not what I think someone wants to see. Thanks to all my friends for their encouraging words & support.

Just a quick post with a lot of pictures of my acrylic album that I finished last month. Working on the clear pages presented some unique opportunities for layering. I printed some of my pictures on transparency & Extravorganza (silk organza to run through your printer by Jaquard). I also stamped on the acrylic pages with Stazon inks & painted with acrylic paint. I used Hambly transparencies to make extra pages, lace paper, felt, jewels & rub-ons. It is kind of hard to show how beautiful the layering is in photos. I love this project & will definitely try another. Hope you enjoy looking.

Prima's Hybrid Challenge

Just finished my LO for the IOD Prima Hybrid Challenge! Love the Prima! It so suites my style, vintage, flowers, great digital line, jewels. All my favorites. The challenge was posted on the IOD blog & I thought I would give it a try. Especially when I saw the prize was a $50 gift cert. to use on their product! They gave a hybrid sketch to see what you can do with it. Only the photos were edited. I love to convert to B&W manually in PSE, by dropping the saturation to 0 and adjusting the contrast in levels. Then I ran a sharp mask to finish. The color photo was slightly punched up by increasing the saturation & sharpening.
I thought these were the cutest faces of Emma looking through the tree. The journaling reads: Such a precious little face...Like a flower. The flower of my life.

Mixed Media Close-Up

After looking at my pictures from yesterday I decided I wanted to explore in more detail my mixed media project. So, I took some close-ups & really liked the way they turned out.

A Paper Casting made on a rubber
stamp then rubbed with metallic wax.

Fabric Paper background with shell buttons, layered with beads, sheer ribbon & machine sewing.

Stamped into Angelina fibers & couched down, Layered tags.

Felt with layers of embossing powder & then stamped while hot. More shell buttons & sheer ribbon.

Overall I love all the details & enjoyed this project so much. It was a great learning & experimentation.

This really spoke to me

In Somerset Memories (Feb/Mar) I saw a quote that really reflected how I am feeling about my art right now:
Your true passion should feel like breathing - it's that natural. -Oprah Winfrey.
It feels wonderful to feel that way about anything. I hope you all find that in your lives in any form.

On with the creating - I found some pens that I just love at the Creative Palette. They are like white-out only in color! They are awesome - you can write on any surface. I used them yesterday on this lo for the doodling, journaling on transparency & on the photo. (isn't Em cute here? she has just started liking baby dolls)
Just wanted to show off my new painting that my mom painted for me. I just love it & it looks fabulous in my dining room. This is the first painting my mom has ever done for me, so it is really special. I think I get a lot of my artistic talent from my mom. She taught me how to do so many creative things. Sewing, decorating, painting (that isn't my forte) & much more. Thanks Mom!

See how great it looks in my dining room. :)

Just one more thing today. I mounted a mixed-media project that I did this summer. I was reading "Mixed Media Exploration" by Beryl Taylor - her work is absolutely amazing! This is my attempt at a collage collection of mixed media elements. You can see her book at www.amazon.com/Mixed-Media-Explorations-Blending-Embellishment/dp/0976692821/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1203972481&sr=8-1

it is one of my favorites.

Thanks for listening & looking with me today. I'm enjoying this more & more.

At the Zoo

Our first spring flowers.

Em's current favorite thing - Lollypops

Today has been an awsomely creative day for me. I guess the inspiration from yesterday is still going on. I have finished 3 LO in the past 2 days. But I can't post them yet because they were design calls & I'm waiting to hear back.

I have been trying to take photos every day lately & here are a few from this week.

Check out my Slide Show!

Creative Palette

Today we went to the Creative Palette in Georgia. There were some great altered art samples on display. I especially enjoyed Patricia DiBona's work (you can see her at http://www.dibonadesigns.com/). I am so excited to try a polymer clay project that Barbara McGuire showed us. I bought a beautiful sheet of angel wing stamps. It is an angel on a canvas & dimensional with the clay. http://www.barbaramcguire.com/ Another neat thing we found was white out pens in pastel colors. They write beautifully on dark papers. I can see all kinds of use for them.
I really love experimenting with altered art. It feels so creative & exciting. This is an altered canvas I completed a few months ago. When I figure out how to get my slide show to work, I 'll post more of my work. Thanks to all of my friends who posted on my first blog. I felt a thrill to see that I had comments!

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.
Well this is my first post on my blog. I want to document my creative journey & share my love of crafty things. My current addiction is scrapbooking. Since having my daughter I have developed a love of photography to preserve my memories of the best times in our lives.

I have been very hesitant to start a blog because I don't feel I am a good writer or will anyone be interested in what I do. But I have been reading Artful Blogs by Somerset Studio & feel so inspired by others work & creativity. One of the most interesting ideas I have read was looking back over your blog so see you personal & artistic growth. So if anyone reads this 'thanks for looking & I'll keep you posted.

This LO is one of my current favorites. Basic Grey just accepted it into their gallery.
