Masked Fabric Art Quilt

Coming to you from Missouri, yes......someone missed their plane.....that's right.....laugh away, I had to so I didn't cry. So now, back to Florida on Friday.....

In other news.......Shimmerz Spritz is perfect for masking on fabric as you can see on this video I made. It added an amazing sheen and color to my masked mini quilt. Take a look at how I started this project:

I added a little more misting to this after I finished the video - the dress form is Chickadee Spritz the shadow masking, Ruby Spritz and then I added a little 4 Leaf Clover on the right side and Mango Madness over the left edge of the Ruby to add a little more color.

To make my sample into a mini quilt: I layered the masked fabric with cotton batting and a cotton backing, creating a quilt sandwich and with light yellow embroidery thread, free motion quiltied the outline of the dress form first and filled the background with a random pattern. After completing the quilting I straightened the edges and zig-zag stitched them to stop any fraying.

Then, hand stitched some paper doilys onto the sides and layered a few embellishments.

The top has some gold Hambly rub-ons applied after the quilting - I love the look of rub-ons on fabric.



I have some other samples from creating my video and I'll share those with you as I complete them.

About the missed flight.....I went to the wrong airport, if you can belive that one......I am slightly accident prone, those that know me will attest to that......so, laughing through my tears this morning.....especially after I had to purchase more expensive tickets with no refund.

Who knows what will happen next? Snow flurries on the horizon....my mom said maybe something good will come from this.....let's not hope for a early blizzard or anything. ;)

Also, forgot to share.....I had a couple of layouts on the Cosmo Cricket blog yesterday! What a fun suprise to see them on my google reader....I was thinking....those look familiar. ;)

Behind the Masks Challenge

I am hosting the bi-weekly challenge at A Million Memories starting today and my challenge is to use found objects - or anything that isn't a screen or stencil as your mask on a project. Those lids in the kitchen, check.....left over chipboard negatives, check....old lace or doilies, check....the list goes on and on.

Here are the samples I made for this challenge also using some gorgeous Prima that Michelle and Prima sponsored the DT with! Thanks!!

Left over Scenic Route chipboard butterflies - misted with Ruby and Plum Pudding Shimmerz Spritz.

The outlining is using a Write-Out pen - it gives a really solid white line.


A paper doily masked with Concrete Shimmerz Spritz - lace always adds a soft, romantic look.





A swirl Fancy Pants chipboard negative - only I used paint this time - Seafoam Shimmerz - love the heavy iridescence!!

Em and I are still visiting in Missouri and have been enjoying our time with Mammy and Papa and the cousins. Heading back home on Tuesday for time with Daddy! It will be good to get home and rest up. ;)

Thankful

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, I am struggling to remember my blessings and all I have to be thankful for. The stress and anxiety of my parents move is really weighing on me and now Emma and I are leaving today to go and visit them for the holiday weekend, so it has been crazy busy with preparations and trying to get ahead on assignments.

Wow, I really sound like a complainer, don't I? I DO have much to be thankful for - here are just a few of those things: my loving family, health, home and a wonderful life, good friends - near and far, my creative spirit, those are the things I want to focus on this week.

And more than a few things to be thankful for in the scrapbooking area, too. I remember just over a year ago - wondering if I would ever be published and now another article accepted by Somerset - a real affirmation for me about the direction I want to go. Not to let go of my passion for mixed media.

And a sweet reminder that I am loved and appreciated by my friends - Steph made this layout for me. How it warms my heart - the way you can connect with someone so like yourself who is so far away. I just know that someday we will meet and our similarities will be even funnier.....so far - our husbands have the same name, our daughters have the same name, our personalities are so alike, both creative and color driven. So amazing! Thanks, hon!! xo

So to all of my friends near and far - I am thankful for you today and wish you (in the US) a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

A Flower Garden

This has been a busy week! The crop going on at inspireME, cleaning out the disaster that is my studio, and just normal life........whew...but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's real life and it's mine.

After the marathon of scrapbook pages last month, I wanted to do something a little different and pulled out my paints and bees wax for a little something for the feature that Sassafras did on me on their blog.....notice how calmly I typed that? SASSAFRAS featured ME on their BLOG!!!! Believe me, I was screaming it inside.....lol.

Here is the little flower garden I created with their papers and blooms:

I cut the little skirt from Sass paper and painted the rest of the figure.

I added the stitched blossoms after the waxing, just kind of pushed them into the wax.

The background is collaged Sassafras papers - the a light coat of gesso that I wiped most away and accented with charcoal pencils.

And LOVE the acrylic stamps from Sassafras - I stamped with Stazon ink to make sure nothing ran when I applied the hot wax - see the adorable stitch stamping?

So, what's going on this weekend for you? I'm finishing the cleaning because my dad is giving me his huge wooden desk for my studio - when I get it set up, I'll post some pics. Have a great weekend!

12 Days of Christmas - It's Started!!
